Hachimantai Geocolor Studio
Geothermal dyeing was born in Hachimantai alongside Japan's first geothermal power plant. It's a one-of-a-kind technique that uses steam from underground in the patterning and dying method. As the vapors contain some of the same mineral components as spring water, the dyes stay vibrant and consistent no matter how many different colors are added, allowing for some truly outstanding gradients. The inventor of this technique was inspired by Hachimantai's four seasons of nature, and uses geothermal dyeing to create designs that are bold, yet delicate. Furthermore, no two patterns are ever the same; each and every design is special. Be it cotton handkerchiefs or silk scarves, a wide variety of handicrafts are available that reflect the year-round beauty of Hachimantai's natural scenery.
